It was a cold, windy evening for racing at Twin Cities. The car looked good in hot laps but the motor sputtered a little bit as TJ got into gear on the track. We checked things out after hot laps but couldn’t find any problems and the motor fired right up and seemed to be running fine.
TJ started 4th out of 11 cars in the first heat race. While waiting to go out on the track the motor stalled and we had problems getting it restarted. When TJ would put the car into gear the motor would die. Luckily we were able to get it to re-fire. I turned up the idle to help keep it from stalling and we gave the car a push as TJ released the clutch and luckily the car took off. TJ got onto the track just as the cars were lining up to take the green flag.
TJ got a great start and went from 4th to second. It was some great racing with him and Beau Stewart going side by side for 8 green flag laps. As TJ and Beau were battling a couple of other cars caught up to them and it became a 4 way race for second place. On the final lap TJ pulled past Beau going into turn one. He held off a couple of other cars diving inside a lapped car in turn 4 to finish second.
Later in the evening during one of the Hornet’s heat races a car got air born and went through the fence in turn 1 coming to stop on the edge of the woods. The fence could not be repaired and the racing had to be cancelled. The Mini-Sprint feature will be rescheduled for later in May. TJ will start 2nd.
The car looked good but we need to figure out what is causing the motor to stall. The heat race was one of the best races TJ has run in the Mini-Sprint and we were pleased with how the new car handled.
